The long flight to Doha, Qatar was relatively uneventful aboard a beautiful new Airbus A350. It had great entertainment system. I listened to several new (to me) jazz artist and watched a couple of good movies, "Late Night" and "Red Joan". A short layover and the next flight was on an A330. Arriving at Kathmandu airport were put into a holding pattern for a while before being allowed to land. Long lines getting the proper visa authorizations and of course I shot myself in the foot changing lanes and got the slowest immigration guy on the planet. But at least I had the pleasure of meeting Raj, a Nepalese living in London. We had a really nice chat in line.
Luggage had long come off the conveyor but it was still there waiting for me. The exit checkers were pretty conscientious about matching up luggage tags with the luggage receipts issued when we checked in. Found the guy Nathan sent to meet me, outside the terminal. He put me an my luggage in a cab to the hotel.
I have to say that, while I have been to several third world countries, Nepal seems the poorest. It's a bit disheartening when I think of all that has to be done to save the planet, the environment, and then look at the abject poverty of a country like this, which is overrun with motorcycles and motor scooters. There will be pollution generated here from the burning of fossil fuels for decades to come.
Arriving at the Hotel Heritage Malla after about 30 minutes, two guys help me take the luggage and camera equipment up three flights of stairs to my room. The room is OK. Has a double bed and a twin, and a bathroom at each endof the room Strangely neither toilet tank has water in it and so won't flush, but I found a work around, I filled the tank using the spray hose next to the toilet used to clean the bowl.Voila! it flushed.
